Avril Furness & Gaelle Mourre VR films are winning awards

We are delighted to see that both Avril Furness and Gaelle Mourre‘s Virtual Reality Films are being nominated for and winning awards around the world. Both are hugely capable and inventive Directors who have a really good understanding of creating story for the #VR space. As we enter 2020, here’s the latest round;

Avril Furness film 360 VR Film “The Right Choice” has been shortlisted for a SIMA (Social Impact Media Awards) award in the VR and 360 film category.

Gealle Mourre’s 360 VR Film “Mechanical Souls” has won a Lumiere Award for best VR stereography.

These festivals celebrate the best in filmmaking. Well done to both.

New Pokemon “Buddy” Film

Check out our latest tearjerker film for Pokemon about a boys love for his Squirtle plushie. Showcasing the new #AR tools for the Buddy feature, the film is going down a storm with Pokemon trainers! We shot over three days in London for Agency Maverick with Director Katie Bell. The film will run on TV in the States and Online globally.

Kaada “Farewell” by Christian Holm Glad

Christian Holm Glad has directed a beautiful and mesmerising music video for Kaada titled “Farewell”

Echoes and Dust have summed it up nicely… Says Kaada “The “Farewell” music video wraps up much of what I wanted to say with the Closing Statements album. All of those tracks were very personal to me and are snapshots of my life, in one way or another. About different things I’ve said goodbye to. These days, truth is hard to find amidst the din and chaos of a world that seems to be spinning ever faster towards madness. The video is about different people saying goodbye to major things.”

To visualize the standout-track “Farewell”, Kaada enlisted his old friend, award-winning director Christian Holm-Glad who actually started his career with making a video for Kaada:

“I met photographer Daniel Voldheim and Christian Holm-Glad by chance some 15 years ago. Little did I know then that this encounter would result in the great collaboration we have today. It is a privilege to work with someone who manages to translate my musical world into images and stories so seamlessly.” (Kaada)

“As people, we are scared to make changes. We are afraid of being alone. We are afraid of not making money, so we do the same routines every day. We are risk adverse, but when you dare to do something else, it is often the best decision in life,” director Christian Holm-Glad says of the video.

Audience of The Future

The first part of the £16 million Audience of The Future Government fund for immersive media is well underway. We’ve been following it from first briefing sessions in early 2018.

The funds announced so far will receive up to £4 million each in funding as part of the Demonstrator Programme. They break down into the following sectors;

Performance

Led by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC)

The project involves 15 specialist organisations and pioneers in immersive technology from theatre, the music industry, video production, gaming and research. They will work together to explore what it means to perform live using emerging technologies such as VR, AR and mixed reality (MR).  Audiences will no longer be bound by location.

Using devices such as mobile phones, extended reality headsets and streams into live performance environments, or even in the home, audiences will experience live performance like never before.

Visitor Experience

A new pioneering collaboration led by Factory 42 and involving the National History Museum and the Science Museum Group

This project will bring dinosaurs and robots to life by placing audiences in new worlds and giving them the ability to interact with them. Two multi-sensory and interactive worlds will be created in the iconic rooms of the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, combining mixed reality technology and immersive theatre.

At the Science Museum visitors will encounter a mixed-reality detective experience featuring high-resolution 3D scans of robots and other iconic objects from its collection to bring the latest in robotics and artificial intelligence to life.

At the Natural History Museum, awe-inspiring dinosaurs from its collection will be brought to life and visitors will experience the detective work of palaeontologists and share the thrill of scientific discovery.

Shorter sampler versions will also tour a number of shopping centres across the UK.

Sport Entertainment

A consortium led by Esports

This project will produce a new platform called Weavr that leverages the data-rich environment of esports to transform the way esports – and further down the line physical sports – are experienced through cross reality technologies by remote audiences. Through a consortium that includes ESL, the largest esports content producer in the world, as well as leading academics and innovators across immersive technologies, data-driven content production and broadcast, Weavr will transform the experiences of millions of esports fans, generate new audiences and open up new revenue streams for the broadcast entertainment industry.

An additional demonstrator covering Moving Image will be announced very shortly.

First Shoot Wrapped

We’ve just wrapped our first shoot under our new name of Presence. And a hugely enjoyable shoot it was too. As technology advances there are more and more brilliant workarounds that allow for low cost filmmaking, whilst keeping the quality high. Anamorphic lenses that still look amazing mounted on compact high def Arri Cameras and gimble rigs that allow a free flowing camera to work seamlessly around the actors. Lights that run off domestic sockets and yet are powerful enough to rival large HMI’s from only a few years ago.

It reminds us that this is truly a golden age for content and the crews only keep getting better and better. In the race for speed, efficiency and lower costs its easy to become less mindful of the correct permitting, release forms and production insurances. Lets have a mantra for checking and double checking before we leg it out of the door and onto the next crazy, fun project!
