Gaëlle Mourre – VR / Drama

Gaëlle Mourre is an Immersive Director and screenwriter based in London. Having lived in Asia, the US and Europe, Gaëlle brings her cultural experiences into the worlds that she creates in her films. Gaëlle won the special jury recognition film award at SWSX 22 for her latest immersive project and has been selected as a Berlinale Talent 2022. In 2021 she was given the “Most Promising Creator” award by Eurofest XR at Stereopsia 2021.

Previous projects have been in official selection at festivals such as Sundance, SXSW, Venice Production Bridge, Series Mania, LSFF and more.

Gaëlle’s LFS graduation film, Awakening, (starring Tracy Wiles), won Best Drama at New York Shorts Film Festival 2015. It was followed up with The Feast (starring Katie Leung) which won Best Production Design at Underwire Film Festival 2018 and in 2019 she co-wrote and directed multi-branching immersive VR installation, Mechanical Souls (starring Janet Hsieh, George Young and Patty Lee). It won Best VR Stereography at the EMEA Lumière Awards 2019 and continues to tour internationally after initial runs in Europe, the US and Asia. In 2020-2021 Gaëlle Creative Directed the Mechanical Souls Graphic Novel adaptation in English, French and Mandarin.

In 2020 she co-created the VR animation series (Hi)Story of a Painting with the support of Digital Catapult and Arts Council England via Creative XR, and later from Innovate UK on episode 2. Episode 1, « What’s the Point ? » is narrated by British hip hop artist Speech Debelle and premiered at SXSW 2021. Episode 2, « The Light in the Shadow » is narrated by DJ and singer/songwriter Cerys Matthews and is set for a 2022 release.

Gaëlle is a 2022 Berlinale Talent, a member of Directors UK, she participated in the Directors UK Inspire programme 2019-2020 where she was mentored by Richard Clark, was part of BAFTA Crew x BFI Network 2021 and in 2021 Gaëlle was awarded « Most Promising Creator » by Eurofest XR at Stereopsia.
